Position – Construction Inspector

PACIFIC is seeking multiple Construction Inspectors for Prevailing Wage field inspection in Los Angeles for LAWA project, and qualified inspectors with Caltrans experience all across California. The primary projects in LAWA are aviation projects, and for Caltrans are heavy civil transportation projects including bridges, retaining walls, sound walls, culverts, and occasionally buildings.

  • Los Angeles for LAWA project.
  • For Caltrans Projects all across California. Discuss the specific location of the project with the Hiring Manager as PACIFIC has contracts all across California.

Essential Job Duties for LAWA Building Inspectors

  • Minimum 5 years of experience performing inspection oof large scale public works type projects
  • OSHA 30 within the last 4 years
  • Residence within a commutable range
  • Candidates with ICC and LADBS deputy certifications highly desired and will be expected to perform the work as required per the specialties licenses and certifications they possess.
  • Familiarity and experience to inspect construction of public works buildings, LAWA’s prescriptive requirements.
  • Experience and knowledge in the following disciplines, but not limited to: demolition, clearing and grubbing, soils classification, trenching and excavations, reviewing and enforcing shoring requirements, airport ramp renovations and modifications, passenger boarding bridge removal and installations, baggage handling systems, rebar and concrete placement, structural systems metal stud and drywall.

Primary Responsibilities for Inspectors on Caltrans-Type Projects

  • Assist Resident Engineer or Structure Representative for various construction activities and representing the clients
  • Perform daily field inspection of bridge construction to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications
  • Prepare daily inspection reports based on the on-site construction activities
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications and other construction document
  • Review submittals including shop drawings, product data, test samples, construction work plans
  • Ensure approved materials are received and correctly incorporated into the project.
  • Monitor, coordinate and enforce construction compliance with contract documents, safety regulations and environmental documents
  • Identify non-compliant work and take appropriate action to bring it back into compliance
  • Immediately report critical issues and/or possible delays to supervisor
  • Monitor and document all construction equipment, personnel and activities.
  • Assist Structure Representative and Resident Engineer with documenting the project progress.
  • Perform calculations from the plans verifying location, layout, line and grade of various elements
  • Respond to Contractor’s Request for Information (RFI)
  • Ensure all changes and/or modifications are noted on the final plans
  • Facilitate safety meetings and other team meetings
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with various contractors, entities, clients, and regulatory agencies, e.g., sampling and testing of construction materials, construction staking and surveying
  • Perform constructability review of contract design plans
  • If assigned as a structure construction inspector, familiar with Caltrans manuals/standards and actual experience with inspecting bridge elements such as falsework, CIP box girder (soffit/stem and deck), columns and CIDH piles.
  • If assigned as a source inspector, willingness to travel since fabrication sites, suppliers and testing laboratories might be out of town

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A valid Driver’s License and compliance with PACIFIC’s Vehicle Policy
  • Proficiency with common Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat (PDF files)
  • Pre-employment drug test. Also, subject to drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment in accordance with PACIFIC’s Drug, Alcohol and Illegal Items Policy
  • 3+ References from Clients
  • Min OSHA 10, unless an agency requires OSHA 30 such as LAWA
  • Flexibility to work alternative shifts including weekends and nights
  • Effective with personal time management and multi-tasking
  • Ability to work in outdoor field construction sites, and office include sitting for periods of time.
  • Have general knowledge of code requirements
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices and OSHA safety regulations
  • Ability to write reports and memos
  • Capable to work with common Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat (PDF files)

Education/Training

  • High school diploma (or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (or Higher) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering or relevant majors.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT)
  • Professional certifications for source inspection CWI (AWS), PCI Level I or higher (PCI), and ACI Field Testing Grade I and willingness to perform source inspection
  • Professional certifications by recognized inspection agencies (ICC, Caltrans, QSP, etc.) for applicable CTMs, ASTMs and/or ACI procedures and take samples and perform field-controlled tests of construction materials for quality assurance
  • Experience in construction management and inspection of Public Works or Industrial facilities, serving as Construction QA Inspector, or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with projects on Caltrans Right-of-Way
  • Ability to use the common Caltrans bridge construction manuals: Construction Manual, Prestress Manual, Falsework Manual, and Foundation Manual.
  • Knowledge to perform independent check calculations for temporary works such as falsework and shoring, and quantity takeoff per Caltrans manuals
  • Willingness to learn new construction technologies
  • Design Build experience

  • Maybe required to work past regular work shift
  • Maybe required to work various shifts as needed
  • LAWA will provide a desktop computer that can be VPN’d into
  • A laptop will be provided for company business and to VPN into LAWA system when away from the office as necessary
  • Cell phone reimbursement is applicable for this position through Pacific Pros Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy
  • This is NOT a work from home position
  • This is a salaried position based on 40 hours per week
  • This is a Monday-Friday full-time position in the office or on the project site at LAX
  • After hours or weekend work may be required to perform the duties of the position. This shall be considered part of the salary.
